Addressing key performance issues in the urban layout

Accessibility : Analyzing the impact of physical factors on patterns of movement and space use, therefore their cascading impact on accessibility in urban spaces. This analysis enables our clients to make strategic design decisions to forecast and coordinate flows of human and vehicle movement.

Sustainability: Evaluating the social, economic and environmental impacts of human activity performed in the urban space. In doing so, we explore new approaches to mitigate risk in urban development processes and policies.

Social cohesion:  Highlighting the fundamental role of space in bringing people together or keeping them apart, through raising questions about the physical factors that influence people to cooperate and prosper.

Addressing key performance issues in the domestic layout

– Communication and innovation: Some spaces are livelier,  more encouraging and more prosperous than others. To challenge this statement, we use space syntax as a tool, to understand how interaction is generated in new designs, and how we can design communicative and innovative spaces.

– Movement and circulation: The physical layout of rooms, corridors and vertical connections exerts a strong influence over patterns of movement within and around dwelling units. Understanding the effects of spatial arrangement on the inhabitants’ activity allows design proposals to be generated that facilitate access and encourage bonding and human interaction.

– Cultural identity:  Spatial layout is vital to reinforce cultural identity within the dwelling unit, and the neighborhood. In the domestic layout, we aim at answering crucial questions on exterior design elements, the interior interaction of space, and how both entities affect one another in the cultural context of the house.
